We Have a New Family Member -- a Kitten!
March 13, 2010
Vi's officemate gave us the kitten. Her family's cat gave birth to four kittens. We had to wait six weeks until the kitten was old enough to eat solid food and can be separated from the mom. For us who were excited the six weeks was a very long wait.

Yesterday, the day finally came. When Vi spoke with her officemate on the phone to arrange the pickup, Vi sensed some reluctance and perhaps a change of heart. Her officemate and her family seemed to have grown attached to the kittens.

When Vi went to JCPenney to pick up the kitten, her officemate and her daughter were there. Her officemate was in tears when she handed Vi the kitten. Vi promised she'd give back the kitten if it felt lonely and promised to show her pictures from time to time.

On the drive home all the kitten did was cry. I thought maybe we should have asked for two kittens so it would have company.

When we got home the first thing the kitten did was sleep in Vi's arms. They were in the living room. When it awoke, it had its first meal and in no time was playing with the kids.

So far that's all it seems to do -- sleep, eat, and play. Our concerns about it feeling lonely, adjusting, and perhaps being in shock for a few days away from its mom and siblings and surrounded by all the new sights, sounds, and smells quickly dissipated as it played, cuddled, and cooed with us.

And when it's tired playing, it climbs into our laps, tucks its head hidden under our arms, and falls asleep. We'd then lay it on a pillow and cover it with a blanket where just like a baby it continues sleeping.

The drive home. It was the first time for the kitten to be away from its mom and kept crying. While driving I had to force my eyes on the road as I couldn't help glancing back at the kitten in Vi's arms.

Falling asleep in Vi's arms. Vi was like this for about an hour as the kitten lay cuddled in her arms sleeping. Later it was my turn.
After it woke and had its first meal, it was playing with the kids.

It's hard to take a picture as the kitten won't be still and kept moving about. It has no name yet as we don't know yet the gender.
Sleeping in my arms. I'm typing this with one hand as the kitten lays sleeping in my arm.
