Sunrise in the Town of Wallkill
New York - July 3, 2010
I got up early to take pictures around town.

A long time ago when we moved up here, I had to sacrifice 5 hours daily to commuting time. Compared to the 30-minute commute I used to take when we lived closer to the city, I now had to spend a third of my waking hours sitting inside a train when I could be watching TV or, as was my greatest grief back then, watching our young kids grow. I have to admit that realizing that last one I was in near tears on my first train ride home from work.

But living far northwest of the city is not without its rewards. Weekends are relaxing, people are friendlier, life is laidback, and cost of living is less overall. Soon we learn that we were just one family among many who were making this place the fastest-growing county in the State of New York. And, as I learned early on from a reader who wrote to the local newspaper, drive five minutes in any direction and you are in beautiful, open country.

Come see for yourself.

I parked by the roadside on County Road 47, a.k.a. Scotchtown-Collabar Road...
...to take pictures of the sunrise...
...then drove along Lybolt Road...
...and made a turn onto Hufcut Road.
With the sun rising fast, I went to Winding Hills County Park.
You might notice you don't have to hike on foot in the woods for miles to get to places that are one hundred percent Nature -- you just have to
Nor do you have to drive at all to see for miles around. This is the supermarket I go to for groceries on Saturday mornings which I also went to after taking pictures of the sunrise...
...and this is its parking lot. As you can see, we are level with the hill and mountain tops that stretch all the way to the horizon.
